Dr Benji Trenkner joins Shine Health as a registered Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine practitioner, bringing his passion for the art and science of Chinese and Japanese medicine and years of expertise. Dr Benji is also trained the use of cupping and Cosmetic Acupuncture and Facial Rejuvenation.
Dr Benji began his health practitioner career as a trained Traditional Chinese Medicine Herbalist in 2003 and Acupuncturist in 2005.
The following year Benji travelled to Japan to further his training in Acupuncture and Japanese Herbal Medicine in Osaka. Japanese acupuncture is based on the same foundations as Chinese acupuncture, however the needling technique is far gentler. People love the subtle and gentle treatments of Japanese acupuncture and its great for those who have a bit of a “fear” of needles.
While in Japan, Benji also extended his training in the Japanese martial art of Aikido, where he learnt Kiatsu and Shinshin-tōitsu-dō techniques.
Benji loves being a practitioner of Traditional Japanese Acupuncture and herbal medicine because working with people to increase Mind-Body health and awareness is so important for overall happiness and success.
Benji also incorporates Kiatsu (point therapy) and Shinshin-tōitsu-dō (Mind-Body Unity Techniques) to help patients promote a healthy body-mind balance and allow the body to continue to heal through it’s own innate abilities.
Some of the areas where Dr Benji focuses his training and skills are in the management symptoms of conditions like
- autoimmune conditions
- chronic neck and back pain
- emotional issues
- seasonal and epidemic illnesses like hay fever and cold and flu’s
What is Kiatsu?
Ki is living power. It is the energy of the Universe that flows through us strongly when we are relaxed and focused, and when we unify our mind, body and spirit. Kiatsu is the process of putting Ki into ourselves or another person to help stimulate our natural healing abilities.
The Kiatsu practitioner unifies mind, body, and spirit using meditation while practicing good posture. The practitioner then touches the part of the body that is being treated with a mild to moderate amount of pressure.
Kiatsu treatment helps muscles relax, circulation improve, and reduce swelling. Pain usually decreases as a result.
Educating the patient on how to practice deep breathing and correct posture is extremely important in achieving the highest levels of Mind-Body health.
What is Shinshin-tōitsu-dō?
Shinshin-tōitsu-dō (way of mind and body unification) was founded by Nakamura Tempu and is also known as Japanese Yoga and Aikido.
It is a study of the principles of nature and how they can be refined to help us realise the truths of nature and our full potential.
The goal of this way of mind and body unification is the free use of our mind and bodies and realise our true nature as human beings. By being able to use our most fundamental tools (the mind and body) naturally, effectively and in coordination of each other we can artistically express ourselves in life.
Three elements that are key in this process are:
- Training to reveal the nature of positivity.
- Reformation of the subconscious.
- Regulating and maintaining a balanced condition in the nervous system.
Dr Benji employs these principles so patients can learn how to move the body correctly to allow healing to continue outside the clinic.
